Policy and legislation

CLIA Europe promotes the interests of cruise operators with the EU institutions in all matters related to shipping policy and ship operations and encourage expansion of the European cruise market.

To this end, CLIA Europe encourages high standards of operation; strives for an EU regulatory environment that supports safe shipping operations and protection of the environment, and that recognises the international dimension of the sector; works for the elimination of barriers to trade; and raises the profile of the cruise sector with the EU Institutions in relation to its economic and social contribution to Europe.

CLIA Europe achieves this by:

  • Having a regular dialogue with EU institutions as well as other stakeholders, other international organisations, networks, and stakeholders.
  • Giving member lines an effective chance to give their input into EU policy-making.
  • Gathering intelligence on current and future policies and legislation.
  • Providing a cooperation platform for member lines.
